# Planning a TV feature wall: support, cables and service access

Coordinate the television, compatible mount, wall support, equipment storage and cable access before building a decorative feature wall.

A TV wall can look carefully designed while hiding an awkward service problem behind it. The screen may be difficult to remove, the equipment cabinet may not accommodate its contents, or the cable arrangement may depend on a model that later changes. Begin with the actual television and connected devices. For a majlis or living room in Al Ahsa, the decorative composition should grow around a verified mounting and access plan rather than asking the installer to improvise behind finished panels.

## List the screen and everything connected to it

Record the exact television model, planned mount and every device that needs a home, including receivers, game equipment and sound components where relevant. Note which items need frequent physical access and which connections may change. Give this list to the interior designer before the elevation is approved. A large empty cabinet on a rendering does not establish that the actual equipment fits, that its controls remain usable or that the cables can be connected after installation.

## Verify the support behind the decorative finish

Samsung's mounting guidance calls for a compatible mount and a wall capable of supporting the installation. Have a qualified installer assess the actual wall assembly and specify a suitable support and fixing arrangement for the chosen equipment. A gypsum-board finish or decorative panel should not be treated as evidence of adequate support by itself. Keep this assessment separate from selecting the panel colour. If the existing construction is uncertain, resolve that uncertainty before closing or cladding the wall.

## Mock up the viewing position from the real seats

Mark the proposed screen outline using removable markers suitable for the surface, or use a paper template. Sit in the normal viewing positions and discuss the relationship to the sofa, side chairs and circulation. Review the composition with the screen both present and imagined as a dark rectangle when switched off. Avoid choosing a universal mounting height from a photograph. The decision should reflect the actual seating arrangement and user comfort, then be recorded on the elevation for the installer.

## Plan cable routes and electrical work together

Show the equipment locations, connection points and intended cable routes on a coordinated drawing. Ask the qualified electrician and audiovisual installer to resolve the appropriate provision and access before the wall is finished. Do not hide improvised electrical connections behind decorative panels or assume a loose cable path will remain accessible. Discuss how a device can be replaced without dismantling the whole feature wall. Label the final connections so future service does not start with guessing which concealed route serves which item.

## Give equipment breathing and working space

Use the actual manufacturers' instructions to coordinate ventilation and service clearances for the television and connected devices. Samsung also highlights ventilation and access to connections in its mounting guidance. Avoid applying one clearance number to every screen and cabinet. Review the equipment in its installed arrangement, including doors and removable panels, and ask how serviceable parts will be reached. A cabinet that looks generous from outside may still need a different internal arrangement once plugs, cables and access are considered.

## Design the joinery around future adjustment

Decide which parts of the decorative composition are permanent and which can be opened or replaced. Consider how the screen could be removed for service and how a different device might fit the equipment storage later, without promising compatibility with every future product. Ask the joiner to show access panels and joints on the same elevation used for appearance approval. Record where fixings or supports sit before they are concealed. These details can remain visually quiet while making the installation more understandable.

## Inspect the system in use before closing the project

Have the installer demonstrate the screen, audio equipment and each connected source that forms part of the agreed scope. Check access to controls and storage, review the cable labels and confirm that the final arrangement matches the approved mounting detail. Keep model references, manuals and photographs of concealed work with the handover documents. Record unfinished items separately from the decorative snag list. A complete TV wall is an operational installation as well as a finished composition in the living room.

## Your practical checklist

1. Record the actual screen, mount and connected equipment.
2. Verify wall support before concealing the construction.
3. Test the screen outline from normal seating positions.
4. Coordinate electrical work, cable routes, ventilation and service access.
5. Keep mounting records, cable labels and installed model information.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can a television be mounted on a gypsum-board wall?

The visible finish alone cannot answer that. A qualified installer needs to assess the complete wall, equipment and proposed fixing arrangement before confirming a suitable installation.

### Should I buy the television after the joinery is finished?

Choose the model or resolve a clearly defined equipment specification before finalizing the detail. Otherwise the opening, support, connections and access may have been designed around assumptions that do not match the purchase.

### Can cables be permanently hidden for a cleaner appearance?

A clean appearance can coexist with planned access. Have the relevant trades design appropriate routes and service arrangements so equipment replacement does not depend on damaging unrelated finishes.
